چکیده
(a) Let d = (m,n). Then notice that d · nd = n ≡ 0 ∈ Z/n, so nd is in the kernel of the map ·m. Now let k ∈ Z/n satisfy mk = 0 ∈ Z/n. Then we have mk = c′n for some c′ ∈ Z. We can write n = d · nd , and so we have mk = cdd . Dividing both sides by d, we find m d k = c ′ n d where m d ∈ Z. But md is relatively prime to n, and so letting k = ( m d )−1 c′ nd , we see that k ∈ {n/d} and we are done. (b) Let G be a cyclic group, and let H < G be a subgroup. Note that G is abelian, so that H is normal and hence we can consider G/H as a group. Let G =< g >, and let h ∈ G/H, where h ∈ G is a representative of h. We can write h = ng. If n ≥ 0, we then have h = g + g + · · · + g, so that h = g + g + · · · + g, i.e. h = ng. If n ≤ 0, we have similarly h = −g − g − · · · − g, so that h = −g +−g + · · ·+−g = −g − g − · · · − g, and hence h = ng. Thus G/H =< g >.

The Extent of Using Real Problems and Emphasizing Modelling in the 10th Grade Math Textbook
Modelling is emphasized heavily in the national math curriculum, yet the extent to which this concept is covered in the math textbooks is, while of great importance, unknown. To discover the extent to which this issue, and real problems in general, are covered in the 10th grade math textbooks, the content of the textbook for the ‘theoretical’ (“nazari”) branch was analyzed. In doing so, the vie...
متن کاملMath and science motivation: A longitudinal examination of the links between choices and beliefs.
This study addresses the longitudinal associations between youths' out-of-school activities, expectancies-values, and high school course enrollment in the domains of math and science. Data were collected on 227 youth who reported on their activity participation in 5th grade, expectancies-values in 6th and 10th grade, and courses taken throughout high school. Math and science course grades at 5t...
متن کاملValuated Matroid Intersection II: Algorithms
Based on the optimality criteria established in Part I, we show a primal-type cyclecanceling algorithm and a primal-dual-type augmenting algorithm for the valuated independent assignment problem: Given a bipartite graph G = (V , V −;A) with arc weight w : A → R and matroid valuations ω and ω− on V + and V − respectively, find a matching M(⊆ A) that maximizes ∑ {w(a) | a ∈ M}+ ω(∂M) + ω−(∂−M), w...
متن کاملEducational and career interests in math: a longitudinal examination of the links between classroom environment, motivational beliefs, and interests.
Drawing on the expectancy-value model, stage-environment fit theory, and self-determination theory, this study examined the longitudinal associations between classroom characteristics, expectancies-values, high school course enrollment, and career aspirations in the domain of math. Data were collected on 3,048 youth who reported on their classroom experiences in 7th grade, expectancies-values i...
